Dr. Marwan Kraidy

The Faculty of Communication at IUE hosted Dr. Marwan Kraidy from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kraidy gave a colloquium talk on Arab Music Videos, Sexuality and War. This interview with Kraidy by Dr. Yeşim Kaptan was recorded October 27th, 2011 at the IUE Newsroom.

Dr. Marwan Kraidy
Marwan M. Kraidy is a Professor at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and Edward Said Chair in American Studies, American University of Beirut. Dr. Kraidy was previously a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the founding director of the Arab Media and Public Life (AMPLE) project at American University, both in Washington DC. He is an expert on the role of media institutions in shaping social experiences of modernity in the non-West. He has written extensively on cultural globalization, hybridity, the Arap media, public discourse, and reality television in the Middle East. Professor Kraidy published four books (Hybridity or the Cultural Logic of Globalization (2005); Reality Television and Arab Politics: Contention in Public Life (2010), Arab Television Industries (2010), Global Media Studies: Ethnographic Perspectives) and many distinguished articles in the Journal of Communication, Critical Studies in Media Communication, Communication Theory, Media, Culture and Society, Television and New Media, First Monday, Journal of International Communication, Transnational Broadcasting Studies, International Journal of Communication, Global Media Journal, International Journal of Middle East Studies, Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication, Arab Media and Society.
