On Popular Music

In contemporary socities individuals are surrounded by ‘Lists of number- one hits’ or best-seller albums everywhere. Infact they are all the same.
Leading member of the Frankfurt School Theodor Adorno, who was a sociologist, philosopher, and musicologist, makes critique on popular music since its standardization. In his book ” Studies in Philosophy and Social Science” he emphasizes that “The whole structure of popular music is standardized, even where the attempt is made to circumvent standardization. Standardization extends from the most general features to the most specific ones (Adorno,1941, Vol. IX, No. 1, pp. 17-18).
